As a Communications Intern in the Office of the Mayor, I help shape and share the City of Kent’s public messaging through digital storytelling, community engagement, and event support. Working alongside the Communications and Multimedia teams, I contribute to content strategy and public outreach that reflects the city’s values and amplifies the voices of its diverse residents.

My responsibilities include:

• Creating social media content that promotes local businesses, nonprofit partners, city-led initiatives, and community events. This helps strengthen trust and visibility between the Mayor’s Office and the public.

• Assisting with internal and public-facing events such as festivals, parades, City Council functions, and mayoral appearances by supporting logistics, setup, photography and video capture, guest guidance, and teardown.

• Participating in strategy meetings focused on city image, communications goals, and deciding which stories, organizations, and individuals to feature.

• Conducting research on local organizations, public figures, and cultural events to inform content that is timely, inclusive, and locally relevant.

• Collaborating with city officials, staff, and community stakeholders to support outreach efforts that reflect civic priorities.

• Assisting the Multimedia team with livestreams, promotional videos, and high-quality media projects that use professional-grade equipment and Adobe Creative Suite.

• Utilizing tools such as CapCut, Airtable, Podbean, and Sprout Social to manage content calendars, media production workflows, and analytics reporting.

This role has expanded my experience at the intersection of government communications, media strategy, and civic engagement while allowing me to contribute meaningfully to how the City of Kent connects with its people.
